Other information
Purchase of new single-user Stata licences
When you order a new single-user licence you receive either:
x1 one software DVD (includes PDF documentation), one Complete Documentation Set (21 items) and licence or
x1 installation DVD (includes PDF documentation)and licence.
A single-user licence for your own use can be installed on up to 3 computers. Only 1 session of Stata may
be run at any one time with a single user licence. Where the Stata licence is perpetual
there is no annual fees (unless leases of Maintenance purchased). Updates for a given version are available free through
your connection to Stata from within the program. Upgrades to new versions when
they are released are available at special prices to current users.
Establishing Stata networks
A N-user network can be established within "a single local geographic location or physical site". A minimum of 2 users is required. The software can either be installed on a server constrained to N simultaneous users or individual PC's or a combination
of both. Your cost, in addition to the initial single-user, is calculated by
adding the cost of network user 2 plus additional users at the network user
3-10 rate plus additional users at the network user 11-25 rate, etc. You do
not receive a DVD or any documentation for the additional network users although
you can purchase extra documentation or DVDs. You can add extra users at any
time at the marginal rate for additional network users. A major advantage of
a network is that future upgrades may be purchased at the network upgrade rate.
Volume purchases of new Stata single-user licences
The cost of purchasing N new single-user Stata licences in a single
order is the same as the cost of purchasing a new N-user Stata network as described
in the previous paragraph. You receive either:
x1 one software DVD (includes PDF documentation), one Complete Documentation Set (19 items) and licence or
x1 installation DVD (includes PDF documentation)and licence.
The advantage of the volume purchase is that you receive N individual
Stata licences that the user can install on up to 3 computers. Further, it is possible for some of these individual
users to upgrade to Stata/SE since the licences are not linked as for a network.
The disadvantage of the volume purchase is that future
licences must be purchased at the single-user rate, or through a new volume
order. Future upgrades of the individual licences will be at the single-user
upgrade rate.
Stat/Transfer single users and networks
All orders regardless of size come with one software CD, one version
10 Manual. Licences are based on the number of users in a one year period. There are separate
prices for Stat/Transfer single computer and five or ten computer work groups. These licences
are perpetual (no annual fees). There is an annual lease fee available for Stat/Transfer
25 or 50 computers work groups.
Upgrading Stata
You need to cite your current Stata licence number in order to purchase
Stata 12 at upgrade prices. The cost to upgrade from Stata 11
is the same as upgrading from an earlier version. Licences purchased under an earlier GradPlan
may be upgraded to a Stata 12 single-user licence at the normal upgrade rate
but cannot be upgraded to be part of a network licence.
Upgrading N single-user Stata licences to a N-user network
If you currently have more than one single-user Stata 11 licence (or
earlier versions), you can upgrade to a N-user Stata 12 network. Your cost is
the sum of a single-user licence plus network user 2 plus additional users at
the network user 3-10 rate, etc. You receive either: one Complete Documentation Set (21 items)
and documentation on PDF or the installation DVD containing the Documentation on PDF.
We need to know the Stata 11 licence numbers of the N current single users. You need to nominate one person
to hold the new N-user Stata 12 licence but we do not need the names of the actual
users. You can then add extra users to your network at the normal rate for
network user 3-10, etc. This process will save you money now, particularly if
all the users do not need full documentation. And future upgrades will be cheaper
than purchasing N single-user licences. Licences purchased under an earlier
GradPlan cannot be upgraded to be part of a network licence.
Upgrading
If you upgrade (Stata/IC 12 to Stata/SE 12, Stata/IC 12 to Stata/MP2 12 or Stata/MP4 12,
Stata/SE 12 to Stata/MP2 12 or Stata/MP4 12 etc.) you receive a new licence. The previous licence becomes invalid.
If you have a network licence and wish to upgrade, you need to upgrade all users.
If only some of the users need Stata/SE or Stata/MP, you need to purchase new single-user
Stata/SE or Stata/MP licences or set up a new separate Stata/SE or Stata/MP network. There are some exceptions
to the above so contact our office for the various options (remember to quote your Stata licence serial number when requesting
a quotation for an upgrade).
